With record passenger numbers at Nashville International Airport (BNA) and significant construction work underway throughout the terminal, we can expect busier roads, altered traffic patterns and a longer time to pick up at the airport during Fall Break.

🏗️ What is Changing at BNA?

BNA is in the middle of its $3 billion New Horizon expansion and improvement program, led by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. The aim is to make the airport ready for further expansion and accommodate up to 40 million passengers annually in the future.

One of the biggest changes for travelers who arrive in Nashville now is the closure of Concourse A. The original concourse was closed in September 2025 and will be completely demolished and rebuilt. The replacement is expected to open on July 11, 2028.

That means the current airport layout is not the one you may remember from an earlier Nashville trip.

Airlines have been relocated to other areas of the airport, while construction continues. The Concourse D extension, completed as the New Horizon project, added five gates and helped BNA maintain its gate capacity while Concourse A was rebuilt.

If it has been a while since your last visit to BNA, take a moment to check the current airport layout before you travel. Construction has changed some of the traffic and access patterns around the terminal.

🍁 Why Fall Break Makes Pickups More Important

Fall Break is a busy time for travel at BNA. For 2026, the airport identified October 1 through 26, 2026 as the Fall Break travel period and October 4, 11, 18 and 25 as peak travel days for 2026.

BNA is responding by providing further manpower, traffic coordination and support around the terminal. Traffic is also being controlled by public safety teams on high volume days. The added preparation is helpful, but it does not eliminate the stress of a hectic airport and construction activity.

When planning for airport transport for Nashville travelers, the time of the flight's landing should not be the only factor taken into consideration.

⏱️ The Pickup Time Is Not the Landing Time

This is one of the most common mistakes to make.

Your flight could arrive at 3:00 p.m., but 3:05 p.m. does not mean that you will be standing outside.

You still need to:

  • Leave the aircraft

  • Pass through the terminal

  • Collect checked luggage

  • Head toward pick up spot

  • Arrive at the scheduled meeting place

BNA recommends that travelers waiting for arrival of family or friends to allow 20 to 30 minutes from landing before reaching the curb. If you are having a hectic Fall Break arrival, it can make things much easier if you give your chauffeur a realistic pickup window to arrive.

A professional chauffeur can keep track of your flight and alter the timing if there are delays or early arrivals that alter the original schedule. That means you don't have to wait outside wondering where your ride is, and your driver doesn't have to wait in the wrong place.

🚧 What the Concourse A Closure Means for You

You do not need to avoid BNA because Concourse A is closed. The closure is part of a long-term redevelopment project, and airport operations continue during construction.

What changes is how the airport functions around you.

BNA is also working on its Central Core, parking facilities, rental car infrastructure and roadway connections. During the 2026 Fall Break period, Level 5 of the Central Core remains closed, while pedestrian access to and from the terminal is kept at Level 1.

There are also updated traffic patterns around Terminal Garage 1, rental cars and valet operations.

That's where airport transportation Nashville can come in handy. You don't have to deal with parking and terminal access after a long flight; you can arrange it beforehand.

📋 Give Your Chauffeur the Right Information

A good pickup starts with good information. When you book your ride, provide:

  • Your flight number: This will help your chauffeur know where you are.

  • Your airline: Airline information is used to identify the correct terminal and operating area.

  • Your hotel or destination: This will enable the driver to prepare for the trip after pickup.

  • Your mobile number: Make sure your mobile phone is in hand in case your chauffeur needs to coordinate the meeting point.

If you have multiple bags, traveling with children, or need more space, please inform us as well. These minor details can be important when deciding on the appropriate vehicle.

📅 When Should You Schedule Your Ride?

There is no single pick-up time that works for every BNA arrival.

If you're arriving normally, it makes sense to plan around your flight and give yourself plenty of time to pick up your bags. It is especially critical to build in extra flexibility during Fall Break and other busy times.

BNA advises arriving at least two hours prior to domestic departures and three hours before international departures. For those who have an early morning flight, a busy business schedule or an important connection, we suggest that you plan the ride well in advance and not book at the last minute.

📈 A Bigger BNA Is Taking Shape

The construction might cause some inconvenience right now, but the reason behind it is clear. During fiscal year 2026 (July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026), BNA carried a record 26.7 million passengers. This was the highest number of passengers to use the airport in its history and a 7.7% increase on the previous year.

The rebuilt Concourse A will have 16 gates and significantly more space, while the wider New Horizon program is designed to prepare BNA for future demand.

That's what means the airport experience is changing now, as Nashville gets ready for what's next.
